Everyone’s heard that Health Care is the field to be in, and there’s no better place to start than Columbus State. Sure, we have Nursing and LPN, but there are a slew of other in-demand fields where the jobs are going unfilled.

Keep in mind: Although Columbus State is open-enrollment, many of our health care programs have their own application criteria. Check their websites for details -- several departments have information sessions to walk you through it. It’s generally best to apply to the college first, knock off your general education requirements, and then get accepted to your program.

The important thing is to take that first step. There’s a complete list of programs at left, and here are some of the hottest ones. It’s time to get going.

Medical Assisting

Medical assistants are the first people you see when you go to the doctor. You'll learn a little bit of everything, from administration to lab procedures. And it's close to home: We offer Medical Assisting both at our downtown campus and at our new campus in Delaware. More on Medical Assisting

Surgical Technology

As patients go under the anesthesia, it’s comforting to have a good surgeon – and a well-trained surgical assistant from Columbus State. Surgical Technologists work in hospitals, surgeons offices, and some are “private scrubs” who work with special surgical teams. More on Surgical Technology

Respiratory Care

As a Respiratory Therapist, you'll work side-by-side with doctors to ensure or restore one of the most essential functions in life: breathing. You could work in doctor's offices, nursing homes, sleep centers, pediatric care facility or conduct quit-smoking classes. Our graduates are also qualified to seek licensure from the Ohio Respiratory Care Board, a valuable credential to have in the workforce. More on Respiratory Care

Pharmacy Technician

Pharmacy Technician is another in-demand career that you may not have thought of. Pharmacy techs are in high demand to assist in hospitals, mail-order pharmacies and drugstores. We offer a 10-week, noncredit course to help get you in the door. More on Pharmacy Technician Program
