** New adjuncts are compensated at the current meeting pay rate for the regular orientation. We do not currently compensate new adjuncts for taking the optional Blackboard training.

New Adjunct? Take the next three steps:

1. Complete new hire forms

All new hire forms must be turned in to Human Resources before you can receive your employee ("Cougar") ID, computer system password ("Novell Lo- in"). Questions? Call Amy Burns (287-5381) if you are in Career and Technical programs and Julie VanWynsberge (287-5607) if you are in Arts and Sciences.

2. Attend Adjunct Orientation

New adjuncts will be introduced to campus resources and processes that will help you and your students be successful at Columbus State. These include:

  • teaching & learning at CSCC
  • academic reporting
  • evaluation of teaching
  • student information & privacy
  • student support services
  • faculty support services

You will be paid for your attendance and participation at the current adjunct meeting pay rate. All your new hire forms must be complete and submitted before you can participate in orientation. Refer to this reference guide to completing new hire forms. You must complete your forms to obtain a Cougar ID and computer access ("Novell Log-in") information. Bring your Cougar ID to orientation to help expedite your compensation. If you do not yet have a Cougar ID or Novell log-in information please inquire with your department chairperson or human resources at 287-5607. This information will be emailed to you at your personal email address. You may need to check your spam folder.

To find directions to campus buildings see the Visitor Information page on the main Columbus State Web Site. (Note: The CT building is West of Cleveland Avenue. Do not confuse it with the Center for Technology and Learning [TL building].)

3. New Adjunct Introduction to Blackboard (Optional)

This class specifically for newly hired adjunct faculty to help you quickly get started using the college's course management system.
All courses have an online space (called a "shell") available in Blackboard, the college's online course management system. Even if you are not teaching an online course you can use Blackboard to share materials, communicate with students and even post and grade assignments or quizzes. This course will get you started by covering:

  • How to navigate the Blackboard portal and class shell.
  • How to setup/customize a new Blackboard course shell.
  • How to post/modify/delete an announcement.
  • How to add a course syllabus to a course shell.
  • How to create folders for separating content.
  • How to use the online grade book.

This class is introductory. There are many options for taking more advanced classes through the college's Instructional Technology Institute. Those classes are available to all faculty and staff. Compensation policies vary from department to department. Consult with your department chairperson. It is recommended that you have your Novell username and password before taking this class so you can fully participate in the training.
