News on Colleague

CougarID is a new identification number created within the Colleague system.
CougarID will be the primary identification number for all Columbus State students and employees.
Effective Summer Quarter 2004, the seven digit CougarID will be the number used for all transactions at the College involving students or employees.  Temporary CougarID’s will be mailed to all students who have registered for at least one course during the past two years, as well as any new students, in early April.  Permanent identification cards will be issued to students and employees later in the year.

Using CougarID requires changes in College processes.
Any office that produces a form requiring some form of employee or student identification will have to revise these forms to provide room for the CougarID.  Whether a line or series of boxes are used, ample space for a seven digit character should be provided.  A place for social security number may be kept on the forms as a secondary means of identification.

Curriculum and Faculty Information (CUFI) training in process.
Department chairpersons and coordinators have been trained on entering their respective schedules into Colleague.  Approximately 13 technical programs and two Arts and Sciences departments have completed the entry of their Summer 2004 schedules into Colleague.  Feedback from chairpersons indicate that entering course information into Colleague was “not that bad.”

While Kim Kinzer and Jay Benedict from Instructional Services have led the training for CUFI, some chairpersons are assisting with the training and data entry.  Doug Montanaro from Humanities, Anne Loochtan from Allied Health, and Tonette Baldin from Construction Sciences are available to assist chairpersons and/or coordinators should they need help.

The deadline for entry of Summer 2004 schedules in Colleague is March 31st.  Additional CUFI training and open lab assistance will be available on the dates listed below.

Registration practices will be much different for Summer 2004.
Registration for summer quarter begins Monday, April 26th.  With the implementation of Colleague, the College will be changing many of its registration procedures to accommodate the functionality of the new system.  While final details are still forthcoming, it is anticipated that we will:

·        Have many more registration stations available to register students in person (the location of additional stations is yet to be determined)

·        Limit the number of students accessing web services

·        Increase the number of telephone lines and operators available to register students

·        Involve more offices in the registration process

·        Provide more enhanced triage services for students who come to register or pay their fees

One decision that has been made.  Registration for Summer 2004 only will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, April 26th for both on-line and in person methods.  Normally, registration would start via the web and telephone lines at 12:01 a.m.

Please stay tuned for more important information regarding new registration procedures for summer quarter.
