Tobacco-Free Campus forums open to students
Did you know that Columbus State will become a Tobacco-Free Campus at the start of
2015? Two open forums will be held this month to discuss the Draft Summary of Findings
and Recommendations for establishing a tobacco-free campus. The forums have been scheduled
for Monday, June 23, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m., and Friday, June 27, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., both in the Conference Center Ballroom (WD). Students are
invited to attend and participate. Your input is valuable and welcome!
You do not need to preregister to attend one of the forums. Everyone is welcome to
attend, and each forum will conclude with a question-and-answer session. If you would
like to watch remotely, the forums will also be live streamed at www.LiveStream.com/ColumbusState. You will be prompted to enter a password, which is: cscc2014. You can also ask questions via the chat feature which will be enabled on the live
Ethical Decision Making Workshop offered tomorrow!
This interactive workshop is designed to help students navigate the decision-making
process while considering potential consequences their rights and responsibilities.
Using group discussion and case studies, participants will reflect on personal values
and those of the College to determine how they might move forward in their academic
endeavors. The session will be offered on Friday, June 20,from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in Eibling Hall 201C, and also on Thursday, July 10, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., in Eibling Hall 201C.
BLUEprint workshop offered: DARS – Mapping Your Way to Graduation
Having a plan can save you time and money! Learn how to use your Degree Audit Report
(DARS) to create an academic plan that will help you achieve your goals. The workshop
is offered on the Delaware Campus on Wednesday, June 25, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. in Moeller Hall 150, and on the Columbus Campus on Wednesday, July 2, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Madison Hall 225.
Get quick resume and cover letter tips July 9
This workshop will cover what goes into a general resume and what should be in the
general outline of a cover letter. If you have a resume and/or cover letter, you are
invited to bring them with you. All Columbus State students and alumni are welcome
to attend. The one-hour workshop is offered on Wednesday, July 9, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Aquinas Hall 323.
Financial Literacy Workshop Delaware Campus: Paying for College at Columbus State
Does paying for college seem overwhelming? Come to this informative session and learn
about the different ways to finance your education and pay your tuition at Columbus
State. Topics will include: the Financial Aid process, searching for scholarships,
how to see your account balance and pay your fees on CougarWeb, and Extended Payment
Plan options. The workshop is offered on Wednesday, July 9, from 6:30 to7:30 p.m. in Moeller Hall 111 and 112, on the Delaware Campus.
Discovery District news: The Discovery District has some "cool" events to perk up your week:
Replenish – The Spa Co-Op offers the “Calm before the Sunset Yoga and Meditation”
in the Topiary Park, Friday, June 20, at 7:30 p.m., and the Summer Harvest Open House, Sunday, June 22, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at 124 S. Washington Ave. There will be local bites to eat,
local vendors and tours of the spa and carriage house.
Don't forget to stop by your local library and sign up for a Summer Reading Club.
Summer reading is not just for your kids, there are programs and prizes for you too,
and who doesn't need a good break from reading at work? Grab your kids, nieces, nephews,
neighbors, friends etc. and sign up together to show them that you never stop reading.
While you're at it, pick a book that you can read together and then see the movie
later, or start your own mini book club!
The Bosco Center, 80 S. Sixth St., will host a flea market event in their parking
lot on Saturday, June 21 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There will be booths as well as some delicious food
trucks. Grab your reusable shopping bags and hit the streets. Also, their cafe is
open for breakfast and lunch now and you can reserve their bowling alley. Discovery
District bowling tournament anyone?
