Study Abroad in MexicoStudents have the option of completing either 2 or 4 credit hours in Spanish while studying Spanish in Cuernavaca, Mexico for either 2 or 4 weeks. Study Spanish in the Mexican City of Eternal Spring!
Students of Spanish will have the opportunity to be immersed in the Spanish language and culture while living in Cuernavaca, Mexico with a Mexican host family for either two weeks or four weeks. Students will study Spanish with native Spanish speakers at Cemanahuac Educational Community in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Students will study in small classes for four hours per day, and then have the rest of the day to explore Cuernavaca and other fascinating places in the Mexican state of Morelos and Mexico City along with students from around the US and the world.

Earn credit for NURS 1109: Cultural Immersion in Health Promotion of Family and Community and assist a volunteer mission medical team for 4 days in Mexico
This one-credit trip/course is offered twice in 2015, and students may opt for either
the January trip (SP2015) or the one in July (SU2015).
It is intended to provide students with the opportunity to gain exposure to different cultures and clinical settings. Students will spend nights in a Methodist church in Mercedes, Texas, then work during the day with primary health care providers in ambulatory care clinics across the border in Nuevo Progresso, Mexico.
This program is part of a mission sponsored by the United Methodist Volunteers in Mission and Ohio Health, in collaboration with the Oriental Conference of the Mexican Methodist Church.

Examining differing health care beliefs and practices in northern Mexico
Learning to identify the physical, psychological and spiritual needs of patients

This unique trip exploring the U.S.' largest trading partner begins with a stopover at Niagara Falls on our way to the cultural capital of Canada: Toronto, Ontario. This center of commerce and culture will afford students an up-close view of business and trade in one of the major economic centers in Canada, complete with a chance to break off and explore whichever ethnic neighborhood interests the individual student. Next up is a completely different experience just a few short hours away: Montreal, Quebec. French influence abounds in the buildings and people we will encounter as we tour companies and landmarks. Students will gain experience and understanding of global business issues in these different Canadian markets, first hand. Though tourist sights are part of the journey, this is not a tour. Students will engage in the study of international business and begin to develop a global mindset.
To prepare for the overseas portion of the program, students will actively participate in a special section of BMGT1798 Study Abroad: International Business in Canada. The course will be offered online in spring 2015. Participation and successful completion of the course is required prior to the trip, and activities in the various cities are also part of the course.

The course will be taught Spring 2015 during the second eight weeks of the semester and culminate in a seven-day study trip to Washington D.C. at the end of the semester (May 10 – 16, 2015).
Earn college credit by enrolling in SSCI 1798 Introduction to Washington D.C. Policymaking.
This course introduces students to the dynamic policymaking process in Washington D.C. Students will study the various political actors, institutions, processes and other factors influencing the federal policymaking process. The course will culminate with students participating in an academic seminar in Washington D.C. The seminar allows students to actively engage in and apply what they are learning. Students will explore the policymaking process in Washington D.C. firsthand with extensive field experience. Columbus State is partnering with The Washington Center (http://www.twc.edu/) to provide students with a premier academic experience in Washington D.C.
* Spend seven active days in Washington D.C. learning about American politics and policymaking firsthand.

Earn credit for SSCI 1798: Learning Through Service: An International Experience in Guatemala - and study abroad for 10 days in Guatemala!
The 10-day study abroad tour, and corresponding course, is designed to introduce students to the magnificent wonders of Mayan culture past and present and develop a deeper understanding of the issues facing this indigenous population. We will visit various locations throughout Guatemala, and engage in a wide variety of activities meant to introduce you to the lives and culture of Mayan peoples throughout Guatemala. Our journey will take us to places in and around Antigua, Guatemala City, San Lucas Toliman, and Flores.
- Climbing the active Volcan Pecaya.
- Meeting local artisans.
- Engaging in service learning projects at the San Lucas Toliman Mission (reforestation, fair trade coffee project, women's center, medical and dental clinic, etc.).
- Special talks by local residents about the Mayan genocide.

This course will be taught online Spring semester 2014, and culminate in an eleven-day trip to Japan during the semester break (May 10-20, 2014).
Earn credit for SSCI 1798: Japanese Anthropology – and study abroad for 11 days in Japan.
This experience will introduce students to the culture and diversity of Japan, a land where the ancient and cutting edge coexist. Japan offers an excellent opportunity to study different aspects of culture (history, economics, religion, politics, art and architecture, group dynamics, etc.) from an anthropological perspective. This tour starts upon arrival in Osaka. We will first work our way south to Hiroshima, and then back north to Kyoto, Hakone, and finally, Kamakura and Tokyo.

This exciting journey begins in Denmark and ends in Berlin, Germany with a visit to Sweden in between. Students will gain an understanding of global business issues in key EU markets, first hand. Though tourist sights are part of the journey, this is not a tour. Students will engage in the study of international business and hopefully, begin to develop a global mindset.
To prepare for the overseas portion of the program, students will actively participate in a special section of SCM-1190, International Business. The course will be offered online in spring 2014. Participation in inter-college activities and assignments with students from three US community colleges who will be joining us on the journey is also part of the course.
Danish business faculty will lead the overseas component of the program along with US faculty. By preparing a team business presentation and participating in a Danish-style exam, students will experience the differences in educational systems and hone their cultural awareness. The academic part of the overseas experience is balanced by visits to cultural and fun sites.
