This course is a historically based introduction to the study of visual arts in the
West. Through a critical examination of the fundamental formal concepts and the historical
developments in the visual arts, this course examines the visual expression of culture
from the Prehistoric era to the early Renaissance.

HART 1260 World Cinema (A, SP, SU)
3 credits
HART 1260 is a course exploring the history of world cinema through analysis of the
content and structure of selected major historic examples in the genre, from the beginnings
of film in the late 19th century to the present. Special attention will be given to
the work of important filmmakers from around the world and to the social and philosophical
context in which they worked.
