Description of the Field

Majoring in a modern language is an enriching and complementary part of a liberal arts education that fosters critical and logical thinking and provides the opportunity for students to make connections among diverse fields of study and across multiple disciplines. Language majors can adjust quickly to diversity, have sharpened proficiency in reading, speaking and writing skills, and have a unique ability to analyze new environments. Degrees in modern languages can help lead to careers in government, teaching, banking, tourism, public relations, advertising, publishing, social services, business and many other professions involving interaction with people of different languages and cultures.
