Current Position
Barbara Allen serves as a Professional Development Program Coordinator, a position she has held since April 2011.  Barbara is responsible for New Hire Orientation, Staff and Administrator training as well as professional development initiatives campus-wide. 

Barbara has over 16 years experience in higher education in such diverse areas as admissions, advising, alumni affairs, development, enrollment services, and strategic enrollment management.  She coordinates the Welcome Team and has served as a mentor to Student Ambassadors.

Rich James
Program Coordinator for Faculty Development

Rich James has been Program Coordinator for Faculty Development since 2009.  He coordinates faculty orientations, professional development modules through the adjunct engagement initiative, and other activities and resources for faculty.

Rich spent 7 years at the college as an instructional designer and multimedia developer where he supported hundreds of courses, and many college programs, with video, graphic and web design. His work earned him several awards including a University System of Ohio’s Faculty Innovator Award with retired biology professor Martha Sucheston. He previously worked as an Emmy winning producer, director and editor in public television.His professional interests are in educational psychology, instructional design, workplace learning and informal learning mediated by electronic social networks.

Mary Francis McLaughlin

Mary Francis McLaughlin is the Program Coordinator for Performance Management and Management Development a position which she has held since 2007.  She is responsible for coordinating the PERFORMs initiative, management development and provides performance consulting, coaching, training and development for staff and administrators. 

Mary Francis experience include developing, presenting and managing program to improve individual and organizational performance.  She has work in a variety of industries including education, non-profits, business and governmental organizations.

Lori Thomas is the Program Coordinator for Leadership and Professional Development, a position she has held since February 2012.  She is responsible for coordinating professional and leadership development programming, career counseling along with Colleague and health and safety training.   

Lori has worked in higher education for 18 years as an administrator, human resources professional, career counselor and classroom instructor.  Her experience includes process improvement, program development, career counseling, project management, professional development, and strategic planning.

Susan Thompson

Susan Thompson serves as the Office Associate for Human Capacity Development, a position she has held since 2008.  She is responsible for training logistics, preparing class materials, compiling evaluations, and processing tuition reimbursement and fee waiver requests.

Prior to joining Columbus State, she worked for the State of Ohio for 31 years in a number of agencies including the Auditor of State, Ohio House of Representatives, Office of Collective Bargaining, Department of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, and Department of Mental Health.
