50th anniversary group photo moved to August 30
Due to the busy schedule of the first week of Fall Semester, the 50th Anniversary group photo we have planned will move to Friday, August 30 at 1:00 p.m. in the courtyard near the statue. We will distribute anniversary t-shirts to all, then stand in the outline of a large “5-0” to take the photo! (Photographer will shoot from the roof of Union Hall.) A commemorative poster will be printed featuring the photo, so please take a moment on August 30 to stop out to the courtyard and join in the fun!
Beth Emrich accepts the Part-Time Staff Employee of the Month award from Dr. Harrison in the Telephone Information Center where she works as a representative.
Beth Emrich is so focused on each task at hand, “I have never seen her get distracted from a call,” says Susan Thomas, who works with Emrich in the Telephone Information Center and nominated her for Part-time Staff Employee of the Month in August.
“When Beth gets on the phone with a caller, she is completely focused on the caller’s needs. She gets right to the heart of the issue that needs to be addressed, and at the same time she takes time to fully explain everything, and to make sure all the caller’s concerns are dealt with.”
“Beth enthusiastically took on additional duties to help Staff Advisory Council create a new award last year, but never let the project affect the level of service she provides to students,” says Barbara Simpson, supervisor in the TIC. “Over the years I have received many compliments from students and employees, saying Beth is the most helpful, patient and caring person they have encountered here. One example was when a new student’s transcripts arrived before she had applied. Beth notified Records and Registration, and then followed up with the student as soon as the transcript had been evaluated. Beth is thorough and truly dedicated to serving students!”
Delaware Campus librarians receive national recognition
Dana Knott, Library coordinator, and Kristine Szabo, reference and instruction librarian at the Delaware campus, received national recognition on the Library Journal home page for their work with elementary school students from the Laura Woodward Elementary School.
According to Library Journal, “Knott and Szabo had to design a library project to grab the attention of the students (who were visiting the Delaware campus to experience a day at college), and got their topic from a primary source when a librarian with a son in elementary school suggested Bigfoot. Knott and Szabo decided to focus on information literacy and the evaluation of sources, and specifically, how students should use the CRAP test (Currency, Reliability/Relevance, Authority, and Purpose/Point of View) to evaluate Bigfoot. Knott and Szabo have shared their materials and advice with two otheracademic libraries interested in increasing their community outreach to local elementary schools.”
