Central Scheduling offline until Monday
The R25 room scheduling system will be offline today through Monday, June 25. Central Scheduling will still be able to receive room requests submitted via the Intranet, but will not be able to process requests until the migration of R25 to the R25 hosted environment is complete. In addition, the Events Calendar will not reflect any changes during this time. Central Scheduling anticipates the system to be up and running on Tuesday, June 26.
The Columbus State Board of Trustees approved year two of the Voluntary Cash Separation Incentive at their March 15 meeting. Eligibility for voluntary separation is based on retirement eligibility in accordance with the following Ohio public retirement systems STRS, SERS, or ARP. The qualifications are:
Thirty years of public service at any age
Twenty-five years of public service with a minimum age of 55
Five years of public service with a minimum age of 60
If you think that you meet the eligibility requirements to take advantage of this opportunity, or you have questions about whether you meet them, please plan on attending a meeting on Wednesday, June 27 from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. in CT-107.
The meeting will detail the procedure to sign up for the incentive, what paperwork you will need for certification, how the incentive will work, and next steps to take.

As Columbus State moves closer to semester conversion, the Switch2Semesters Steering Committee will institute a “freeze period” for the addition of any new functionality to the Colleague and Degree Audit systems. The freeze will begin on July 1. The institution of a freeze for new development does not mean that critical, non-S2S work will be halted altogether, but the college will need to exercise appropriate analysis to determine critical (mandatory and time sensitive) vs. non-critical (enhancements and increased functionality) system change requests.
This freeze period is important to help stabilize the production and S2S testing environments leading up to the switch, and to ensure a stable production system by the start of semesters in autumn 2012. We appreciate your understanding of this important decision which will help the overall success of Switch2Semesters. The U.S. Department of Education’s TRiO Office has awarded continued funding for the Columbus State Upward Bound program. Stephanie Albrecht and staff will spend $1,398,680 over the next five years to assist 68 students with intense services and strategies to increase the number of low-income, first-generation college students who successfully pursue and complete postsecondary education.
Columbus State received $110,000 from the State of Ohio Department of Development for the Small Business Development Center at Columbus State (SBDC) to provide assistance and support to small businesses with a focus on manufacturing and technology. Known as the Manufacturing and Technology Small Business Development Center, the program is under the direction of Michael Bowers and Jeff Schick.
Also, the Ohio Child Care Resource & Referral Association has awarded Columbus State a Step-Up to Quality Achievement Award for the Child Development Center. Jennifer Perkins, director, and her staff will spend the $38,500 award on toys, learning resources, craft materials and crib safety devices.
Managers have two options for completing annual reviews for fulltime employees:

As part of the process, all employees complete a Self-Review and submit it to the Reviewing Supervisor. Please check with your manager regarding his/ her deadline for these to be completed. The suggested deadline for these to be complete is Friday, June 22, but managers may provide employees with a different deadline.
All Annual Reviews for fulltime, non-bargaining unit employees must be completed by July 31 at 4:00 p.m.

At the June 2 National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Walk, Columbus State co-captains Jackie Teny-Miller (kneeling left) and Angie Fry (kneeling center) led 45 walkers, raising $1,531 for the organization. Dianne Fidelibus, right, also joined the walk. NAMI is the largest grassroots mental health organization in the country, and is dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. This was the largest attended walk in the history of NAMI Franklin County with more than 1,000 people participating.
The next session of Weight Watchers at Work will start Tuesday, July 10. The sessions will be held at 12:00 p.m. in the DX conference room on the 3rd floor. The cost is $110, which can be paid through payroll deduction for your convenience. For those who work with college contracts, a revised version of the Contract Routing and Approval Form can be found on the Intranet (not available off campus). Through a collaboration of Business and Campus Services, the Legal Office, the Grants Office, and Community Education and Workforce Development, the new form has been designed to facilitate contract routing, review and approval, and timely payment. This form replaces previous versions of the Contract Routing and Approval Form, and Contract Checklists and must accompany all contracts.

Why not convert your existing PowerPoint to a video (with audio recording) that can be embedded in your Blackboard course? Think it's too difficult? Absolutely not! We can actually accomplish a conversion from PowerPoint to video in just ONE click!
In this hands-on workshop, participants will convert one of their own PowerPoint presentations (so don't forget to bring one!) to a video by using a free software called iSpring. During the presentation, attendees will learn how to download the appropriate software and will discuss best practices regarding creating voice recordings on PowerPoint, as well as editing, saving, and uploading recordings into Blackboard.

Getting Started with Blackboard (3 Hours)
This seminar will introduce the Blackboard 9.1 course management system. The goal of this seminar is to provide a solid foundation of Blackboard 9.1's essential know-how topics so participants will be better prepared for further Blackboard 9.1 sessions.
What is Blackboard?
How to navigate the Blackboard portal and class shell.
How to setup/customize a new Blackboard course shell.
How to post/modify/delete an announcements.
How to add a course syllabus to a course shell.
How to create folders for separating content.
We will also look at a few other new content related items.

Building Blackboard Tests Using Respondus (3 Hours)
This seminar is designed for the faculty members who are already familiar with the basics of the Blackboard, and are ready to start developing online quizzes, exams, or surveys. This seminar will focus on the use basic use of a software tool called Respondus.
During this seminar, participants will take documents in the form of a Word document and bring it into Blackboard using the Respondus. Respondus will save you considerable amount of time when developing exams, quizzes, or surveys for your Blackboard course.
