Health Information faculty present at national conference

Gary Clark, Coordinator of the Health Information Technology program, Lisa Cerrato, coordinator and professor in Health Information Management Technology, and Jane Roberts, professor, HIMT recently presented at the national American Health Information Management Association's Assembly on Education meeting in San Antonio, TX.
Also attending the conference were Connie Grossman, chairperson of Allied Health Professions and April Pace, teaching assistant/adjunct instructor in the Allied Health Professions. As part of a nationwide effort to meet requirements of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, which mandates that every U.S. citizen have an electronic medical record by 2014, Columbus State is one of 70 community colleges across the nation that received grant funds to provide training to current and future healthcare workers who will integrate electronic health record information systems at hospitals, doctor's offices and other medical facilities.
The presentation focused on our faculty members’ interdisciplinary approach to integrate the Office of the National Coordinator Health IT curriculum into both the HIMT and CIT programs at Columbus State.

Fee waiver deadline for employees, dependents is Sept. 15
The deadline to submit Employee/Dependent Fee Waivers for Autumn Quarter 2011 is September 15 at 4:30 p.m. The Request for Fee Waiver form must be turned into Human Resources to guarantee that fee waivers will be processed before late fees are assessed.
You may also pay your fees first and then be reimbursed within 30 days from the start of the quarter by completing the Request for Fee Waiver form and submitting an official payment receipt into Human Resources by October 21. If you have any questions, please contact Susan Thompson at ext. 2406.
Employees who completed the necessary steps to receive a pay out in the Wellness Incentive Program that ended June 30, will receive their pay out September 30. This is due to the fact that there is a one-time compensation pay out August 31 and bonus pay out September 15.

Leeman to exhibit in Georgia
Stacy Leeman, adjunct instructor in Humanities, will exhibit her painting “Upstream P#8” be on at the Southern Appalachian Artist Guild Annual National Juried Show at the Blue Ridge Mountain Arts Association in Blue Ridge, Georgia from October 15 through November 12.
Student nurses coordinate Toy Drive
Columbus State’s Student Nurses Association needs your help right up through the end of Summer Quarter, with a Toy Drive they are doing to help Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
Due to the new infection control policies at Children’s, most items that enter a child’s room cannot be reused. Some items being collected by the nursing students include:
New and gently used books and magazines, arts and craft supplies, musical and light-up toys, crib mirrors, lullaby and soft music CDs, rattles, teething rings, games for young adults such as checkers, chess, card games, model kits, journals/scrapbooks, disposable cameras, hand-held electronic games, word search, crossword puzzle and Sudoku books, iTunes gift cards and other gift cards.
