Digital art extravaganza

A group moves through the gallery of student artwork at the annual Downtown Digital Arts Fest, held last week in the Conference Center. Students entered their works in four categories, were judged and earned awards for the top entries at a ceremony held the evening of May 27. More art is in store for everyone this week at the Columbus Arts Festival, which begins Friday in the Discovery District, including portions of Columbus State’s campus!

Mark your calendars for Thursday, June 10, from 3:30- 5:30 p.m. in the Conference Center Ballroom as we congratulate President Val Moeller on her upcoming retirement from Columbus State after 14 years leading the college. A tribute video, some short remarks, fine hors d’oeuvres and a chance to sign the President’s Guest Book will be included in the event. Bring a favorite photograph, quotation, or your simple well wishes to include in the memory book for Dr. Moeller. We are ending the month with a flourish of activities including the Employee Celebration, the Spring Commencement and the Grand Opening of the Delaware Campus, so please join us for this special moment to thank and congratulate our president for her many years of service!


	Lady Cougar Golfers earn 15th in Nationals The women’s golf team, led by Head Coach Watson Walker, played consistently and wound up 15th in the nation at the NJCAA Div. II Women’s Golf Tournament, held May 13-16 in Daytona Beach, Fla. Team members Audrey Nelson, Rachel Nelson, Shelly Post, and Hee Soon Federico combined to shoot 1182 in three rounds on the par 72 course. Audrey Nelson had the highest individual placing with a tie for 56th. Walker has also been named Coach of the Year in the Ohio Community College Athletic Association (OCCAC).

Online Summer Institute offered for employees

The Human Capacity Development Department will offer employees the Online Summer Institute for Community Colleges 2010, June 9 and 10, in WD 302.

The conference will feature a keynote address by Martha Kanter, under secretary of Education for the U.S. Department of Education, who oversees policies, programs, and activities related to postsecondary education, vocational and adult education, and federal student aid. Also featured will be a panel of community college presidents and numerous sessions related to talent management, succession planning, and other leadership issues.
