Insurance Open Enrollment period ends May 21
Each year benefit eligible employees have the opportunity to elect or make changes to the medical, dental and vision benefit plans offered by Columbus State. The election is for the upcoming plan year, July 1, 2010, through June 30, 2011.
If you wish to enroll yourself or a dependent, or make a change to your enrollment status, now is the time to do so. If you are enrolling your dependent(s) for any plan, additional documentation is required.
NOTE: If you are not making changes to your medical, dental, or vision coverage, you do not need to do anything. To continue your FSA, you must complete a new election form. The FSA election expires each plan year.
Columbus State Community College’s health plan will remain with UnitedHealthcare. To view the benefits for plan year 2010–2011, please refer to our website under faculty/staff—employee benefits—benefits—medical—open enrollment. CSCC will continue to offer the Core plan and the HSA Alternate 1 plan.
There are a few modifications to the plans, but the good news is that the contributions for either medical plan, dental, and vision are not changing.
All enrollment or change forms must be returned to Human Resources by May 21.

Racster named adjunct award winner
The Social Sciences Department Adjunct Faculty Appreciation Committee was formed Winter Quarter 2003 for the purpose of recognizing the service of all adjunct professors in the Department and for formally honoring the outstanding service of an adjunct professor twice a year.
The Spring Quarter 2010 Adjunct Appreciation Award was recently awarded to Jon Racster, a long-time adjunct in the department. “During his tenure at CSCC, he has repeatedly shown that he will not only go out his way to help his colleagues but also that he has great ideas and contributions to make to the department,” states the nomination.
“Jon teaches a variety of courses and is active in updating the curriculum in each of these courses. He is available to meet with his fellow faculty members in order to discuss course changes and is flexible in his availability. He has taught both traditional and online courses, and served as the temporary full-time faculty member in Anthropology and Cultural Diversity during Winter Quarter 2010.”
“Jon is enthusiastic as a teacher and is always available to meet with students. Students have great things to say about him and actively seek him out for instruction.” Racster also teaches at Franklin University.
