High School students “Explore Columbus State 2010”

A Student Ambassador leads a tour group across campus last Friday. High school students and parents were invited to visit Columbus State October 15 to go on a campus tour, hear panel discussions, financial aid presentations and more at the Explore CSCC 2010 event put on by the Admissions Department. 

 

	Website preview open forums Come get a sneak preview of the new Columbus State website at an open forum Thursday, October 21, from 10-11 a.m. in Nestor Hall Room 225.  The new website was designed by Ed Mullen Studios of Jersey City, NJ. In building the new site, designers did one-on-one interviews with two dozen employees, held three student focus groups and two public forums. A second forum is tentatively planned, and will be announced soon.

 

Make an appointment for your flu shot

Columbus State will offer seasonal flu shots to full-time employees on In-Service Day, Wednesday, October 27, from 7:30-9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in Nestor Hall West Student Lounge.  

Flu shots will also be given on Tuesday, November 16, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in Nestor Hall West Student Lounge. You must have an appointment to receive your flu shot on either of these dates.

To sign up for a flu shot, go to the employee training website: and select the time slot you want for your shot. Please mark your calendar to remind yourself.

	Final census data in: officially over 30,000! The preliminary Autumn Quarter 2010 headcount and FTE as of census date, October 6, are now available online. Columbus State had 30,297 paid students on the census date, compared to Autumn 2009’s headcount of 28,309.  This represents a 7.02% increase. The total FTE for Autumn 2010 is 20,313.17 compared to 18,956.83 FTE from the Autumn 2009 census day report - a 7.15% increase.  This is the first time the College has enrolled more than 30,000 students as well as had over 20,000 FTE for a quarter! Lofton retires
Ron Lofton, advisor and Learning Disability specialist in Disability Services, has retired from the college after 15, as Ron would say, "wonderful," years of service.  Ron took his position at Columbus State in 1994 after beginning his career at Wright State University's Disability Services.  Over the past 15 years he provided services to students with a variety of disabilities, met with faculty and staff to assure accommodations were appropriate, conducted transition workshops and participated in disability college fairs at many high schools within our service area, and could be seen out and about on campus as he worked with students. If you wish to send your best wishes to Ron please contact Disability Services at 287-2571.

	Watch volleyball LIVE on Wednesday The Columbus State Volleyball Team will take on Lorain County Community College, Elyria, at 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 20 in the Delaware Hall Athletic Center. The game will also be Webcast live through streaming video, so click on the link on the Columbus State home page just after 6 p.m. to watch it!

 

Cancer Support Group to meet Wednesday
The Columbus State Cancer Support Group will meet at noon on Wednesday, October 20 in the Public Safety Training Room-Delaware Hall.

Group meetings are an opportunity for employees affected by cancer (personally, or through a family member/friend) to come together, provide support for each other and share information, ideas and experiences. Please note: Participation by attendees is voluntary. No one is required to share information unless they so choose. Silent participants are also welcome.
