The Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration “Celebrate the Legacy: A Community of Voices,” featuring keynote speaker Cathy Hughes, founder of Radio One, Inc., will begin at 11 a.m. in the Conference Center Ballroom, fourth floor, WD. The program is free and open to the public.
Public Safety to test emergency outdoor public address system Jan. 15The Public Safety Department and the system installer will briefly test the Columbus campus emergency outdoor public address system tomorrow, Jan. 15 at 11 a.m. Once tested and made fully operational, Public Safety will be able to activate the system from Department offices when there is a significant danger to campus. The January 15 test will consist only of a few tones, and voice "test, test, test" messages, to check the system activation, and to determine if the speakers on Eibling Hall and the Center for Workforce Development are properly aimed for optimum outdoor performance.

The University System of Ohio is seeking nominations from students, faculty, and administrators for its 2010 Faculty Innovator Awards. These awards will recognize 10 faculty members and/or teams from Ohio's public universities, regional branch campuses, community colleges, and adult career centers for work they have done to introduce digital course materials in the classroom that enrich learning and make college textbooks more affordable for their students.
The Faculty Innovator Awards recognize outstanding faculty at University System of Ohio institutions who have creatively integrated digital content (video, simulations, e-texts and journals, visualizations, etc.) into their courses, ultimately lowering the out-of-pocket cost of course materials for students.

Nominations for Ohio's 2010 Faculty Innovator Awards must be received by the University System of Ohio electronically no later than 5 p.m. on February 15. They can be submitted using an online electronic form or by video upload.
Fidelibus reappointed to professional boardDianne Fidelibus, instructor in MH/CD/MR, has been reappointed by Governor Ted Strickland to the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board for her second three-year term. Her tenure as Chair of the Board will end in February, but she will continue to have an active role in upcoming legislative changes.
Lunch hour fun and games for employees!Because students shouldn’t be able to have all the fun, the Department of Student Activities and Athletics has scheduled an open gym for Columbus State faculty, staff and administrators on Wednesday afternoons from noon to 1:30 p.m. Now, at least once a week, employees at the college can have playtime during their lunch hour!

The committee looks forward to obtaining feedback from administrators, staff and faculty, which is vital to the review process. SBDC receives proclamation from DublinMichael Bowers, regional director of the Small Business Development Center at Columbus State, accepted a Proclamation from the City of Dublin Jan. 11 recognizing the 25th anniversary of the Ohio SBDC program as well as the accomplishments of the statewide and regional programs. The proclamation recognized the Ohio SBDC at Columbus State for providing business training to 200 Dublin residents, holding office hours in the Dublin Entrepreneurial Center, and for conducting 42 counseling sessions for area businesses.

Nominate a woman student leader today! Do you know a woman student at Columbus State who is a role model in the classroom and in her life? One who has overcome challenges? One who others turn to for advice or who serves as an officer in a student organization?
Nominate them today for the 2010 Women Student Leader Awards, held in conjunction with National Women’s History Month in March. The nominations must be received by Thursday, February 11, and the awards ceremony will be held March 3 in the Workforce Development Conference Center Ballroom.
The Nomination Form is available online, and may be submitted by students, staff, faculty, or administrators. Students may also nominate themselves with one faculty reference letter. Students nominated for the award must be currently enrolled at Columbus State, hold at least a 2.5 GPA, and be registered to attend Columbus State Spring Quarter.
