Volleyball team wins District, on to Nationals
The Cougar Volleyball team won the NJCAA Region 12, Division II District E Tournament this weekend, held in Grand Rapids, Mich. The Cougars defeated Mott Community College, (Flint, Mich.) in the first match, Oakland Community College (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) in the second match, and St. Clair County Community College (Port Huron, Mich.) in the final to win a bid to the NJCAA Tournament, which will be held November 17-22 in Wisconsin Dells, WI. The Cougars will be one of 16 teams vying for the national title.
Jackie Randulic and Megan Danner were named to the All-District Team and Morgan Zumburger was named Player of the Year in District E.
Celebrate Thanksgiving with our international students Nov. 24The International Student Services Office invites employees to join in celebrating Thanksgiving with international students, Columbus State staff and faculty. The event will be held in the WD Ballroom on Tuesday, November 24, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Seats cost $14 per guest and are free for children three years old or younger. You can also sponsor a table of eight for $112, which could provide a seat for an international student to attend.

Employees invited to Screen ’n’ Speak!The monthly Screen ’n’ Speak event is a movie viewing and discussion group hosted by the Office of Diversity, Travel Abroad and TRiO Programs. After watching a movie and enjoying refreshments, participants are invited to discuss the subject portrayed, facilitated by a staff or faculty member. The November movie is “When I Came Home,” facilitated by Columbus State’s Veterans Services Department. Stop in to watch the movie, join in the discussion, and decide if you’d like to facilitate a session in the future!
Screen ’n’ Speak will be held Thursday, November 12, from noon–2 p.m. in the ERC multimedia studio.
“When I Came Home” is about homeless veterans in America—from those who served in Vietnam to those returning from the current war in Iraq. The film looks at the challenges faced by returning combat veterans and the battle many must fight for the benefits promised to them. Through the story of Herold Noel, an Iraq War veteran suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and living in his car in Brooklyn. “When I Came Home” reveals a failing system and the veteran's struggle to survive after returning from the war.
International Education Week starts Nov. 16The Columbus State International Student Association, the Diversity, Study Abroad and TRIO Programs Department and the International Student Services Office have put together a line-up of international and intercultural events for campus during International Education Week, starting November 16.
The events are an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative promotes programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.
