High School counselors extend their stayThe new format for the annual High School Counselors “Breakfast” this year included lunch.
More than 100 counselors from area high schools came to campus for what had traditionally been a breakfast update of Columbus State’s activities and programs. This year, the staff of Enrollment Services decided to expand the day to include a number of workshops, presentations, a luncheon and keynote address by Dr. Bill LaFayette, an economist from the Columbus Chamber of Commerce.
Attendees were given information about transfer options, student activities, TRIO programs, placement testing, online learning, financial aid and scholarships, as well as presentations by alumnus Newton Burris and student Patreisha Ritchey.
The day wrapped up at 2 p.m. with tours and a resource fair.
ERC’s “Anywhere, Any Time” tutorials introduce students to library researchStudents at Columbus State can learn the basics of library research at their own pace with new online tutorials developed by the Educational Resources Center's reference librarians. The tutorials provide an introduction to the services most needed by users: the library, OhioLINK, and research databases.
Created to support both distance learning classes and traditional classes with research projects, each of the two modules has a quiz available to faculty who wish to incorporate the tutorials into a class assignment. “Tool Time” Continuous Improvement Training offered April 22Every week, AQIP provides one of a series of classes that provides an overview of tools and techniques that can be used to improve processes. These tools can be useful on your job and with other organizational activities.
The next series of classes will be on check sheets, flow charts, and systematic diagrams and will be held in the Franklin Hall Board Room Tuesday, April 22, from 4–5 p.m.
You are encouraged to come out and learn how to improve the way you do business. In addition you will learn about the new AQIP process the college is pursuing to achieve accreditation. Register for the class by emailing Sunday Zidonis.
Learn about Cyber Security online with CPEThe Continuing Professional Education Department (CPE) is offering a pilot online course in cyber security free to all Columbus State employees. The 4-hour course can be taken at your leisure but must be completed by May 31, so the department can evaluate the course.
The course involves a careful examination of IT infrastructure as it relates to the growing danger of attacks on private digital information. It will provide you with a foundation of IT security by assessing, monitoring, preventing and responding to cyber threats.
Upon completing this course participants will be able to:
Identify three goals of cyber security,
Explain the impact of major laws and regulations regarding cyber security,
Identify vulnerabilities in information resources, and Develop the components of a cyber security policy, for your business or personal use, within the framework of a training scenario.

Operation Feed kicks off at In-Service Day April 25The Staff Advisory Council would like to announce the return of the Annual Operation Feed Campaign. This year the goal is to raise 3,500 meals for the MidOhio Food Bank. Each can or package donation, as well as each dollar, counts toward one meal.
The drive will kick off at In-Service Day and will run April 25–May 23. Employees attending In-Service are asked to bring their donations to the SAC table at the Wellness Fair.
Since theme weeks are popular, SAC is bringing them back this year:
Week 1 (April 25– May 2): Canned meats and tuna
Week 2 (May 5–9): Boxed dry goods (oatmeal, cereals, macaroni and cheese, etc.)
Week 3 (May 12–16): Peanut butter
Week 4 (May 19–23): Canned fruits, vegetables, soups, stews, pastas
Monetary donations should be made payable to Operation Feed.
