Escorts. Anytime you come to, leave or walk on campus, you may request an escort. This is encouraged in the evening hours to get you safely to where you need to go. Call the Campus Police Department at 287-2525 and tell the Dispatcher where you are and where you are going. Officers are glad to walk you to your on-campus destination.

Vehicle problems. Campus Police officers will attempt to assist with jump-starts. If the officer cannot help, you will be assisted in contacting someone who can.

The department works closely with the State Highway Patrol, the Franklin County Sheriff and the Columbus Police. The department also has a working relationship with other university police departments.

The Public Safety department has 18 officers and 12 full time support staff members to serve the Columbus State Campus community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Many of the officers are also trained as Bike patrol officers, increasing visibility and improving student assistance, as well as nationally registered First Responders.

Access To Campus Buildings. Most college academic facilities are open from 6:15 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday. Weekend hours vary due to schedules and use of buildings. Anyone wishing to enter a building after hours will need to contact the Campus Police department for assistance.
Staff and faculty who need to enter a building after hours will be asked to fill out an access authorization form, available in the Public Safety department, and have it signed by their department supervisor. The form should then be submitted to the Public Safety department. Students who wish to access labs/classrooms must arrange for a faculty member to be present.
