Tips to save time and gasoline

Columbus State’s looking at a record enrollment for Autumn 2008 – and that means parking’s going to be tight in popular lots at peak times (Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.). The Public Safety Department has a number of tips to make sure everyone gets a space this fall.

Don’t forget the outer lots

If it’s too crowded in the inner lots, try outer lots like Lot 28 over by Abbot Labs at Mt. Vernon Avenue and Neilston Street. Or, try the parking garage on Washington Avenue and Spring Street.

It’s often quicker—and easier on your gas tank—to grab a spot in an outer lot than to drive around and around the inner lots searching for a spot, then drive back out to the outer lots.

Get here early

Leave plenty of time to get to campus, park and get to class. Peak parking times are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, so expect tight quarters at those times.

Get a parking pass

All motor vehicles, including motorcycles and handicapped marked, must have a parking permit. Permits can be purchased online, over the phone by calling 287-5353, or from the Cashier’s Office located on the first floor of Rhodes Hall for $25. Hours are Monday-Thursday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

You can get a temporary pass, but it’s a lot more effective to buy an official pass before you get to campus. Campus police will be ticketing.

Be patient

It’s impossible to have parking right next to every building for each student. Still, as colleges go, Columbus State’s parking is fairly convenient.
