JamQuest: Bands battle for scholarships

JamQuest Band

Ten high school bands will take the Lifestyles Communities Pavilion stage March 28 to battle for a unique prize: A college education.

The first-ever Columbus State JamQuest will pit 10 high school bands against each other to win full scholarships to Columbus State. The college will award up to five full two-year scholarships, for a total potential value of more than $35,000.

Nine bands survived the first round of judging and will be competing in the JamQuest event. Media sponsor The CW on WWHO-TV held a preliminary competition for the 10th slot. Competing for the wild card position are Frame by Frame from Bishop Hartley, Tonight We Rise from Pickerington North, and I.M.C. from Groveport Madison.

Additional sponsors include The Columbus Dispatch, Power 107.5 and Lifestyles Communities Pavilion, which is hosting the live concert for the band finalists. In addition, nighttime radio personality “City” from Power 107.5 and The CW star Brittany will serve as co-emcees.

The concert will be held at 6 p.m. March 28 at the LC. Tickets are $7 apiece and are available through Ticketmaster (http://www.ticketmaster.com/) or through the Discovery Exchange Bookstore (http://bookstore.cscc.edu). Columbus State employees and students get a $2 discount on all tickets purchased at the college bookstore.

Columbus State offers several music courses, including Concert Band and Gospel Vocal Ensemble, as well as music production classes.
