The Federal Work Study Program (FWS) involves a part-time job on-campus or
off-campus which gives the student an opportunity to gain work experience and
earn extra money to help pay for living and educational expenses. Students work
no more than 20 hours per week while school is in session. Students may work up
to 40 hours per week when classes are not in session.
Your eligibility for employment under FWS is based on financial need, determined
on the basis of your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Once the
results of your FAFSA have been received by the Financial Aid Office, if you
have eligibility an estimated FWS award will appear on your Financial Aid Award
letter.
The student must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program for at least six credit
hours each quarter during the academic year.
Pay rates and job descriptions for on-campus FWS positions are identical to
those for similar hourly positions. Off-campus FWS pay rates and job
descriptions are consistent with those of the organization’s current salary
structure.
On-campus Job assignments can be in a variety of areas such as clerical, office
services, student activities, and lab assisting. Click to view on-campus Federal

Columbus State Community College has established partnerships with a number of
community service organizations, creating off-campus job opportunities for
students eligible for FWS funds.
