Financial Aid: Receiving Financial Aid and Loan Money

Disbursement of all financial aid funds is based on quarterly enrollment and eligibility for the grant and/or loan programs. When the quarterly tuition and fees are paid, excess financial aid funds are refunded to enrolled students.

Students must pay fees in full before the payment deadline or their classes will be dropped.

Students may elect to have Columbus State direct-deposit any remaining funds to the student’s checking or savings account (Direct Deposit Form ). Students may have these funds deposited to any bank of their choice or stop by Rhodes Hall Room 234, Grants/Contracts/Loans for information regarding an account with MidState Educators Credit Union.

Please Note: Financial aid does not automatically pay fees for courses added after the fee payment deadline. You may contact the Financial Aid Office for fee payment options. Additionally, financial aid will not be available to pay for courses added after the 100% refund period of a class section.

Federal Stafford Loans (Electronic Funds Transfer)

Funds will be disbursed to Columbus State electronically. Once the funds arrive, the student’s continued eligibility will be reviewed to determine if the funds may be applied to the student’s account.

Federal Plus Loans

Great Lakes PLUS Loan funds are sent to the college through electronic funds transfer and are credited to the student billing account upon receipt. Sallie Mae PLUS Loan funds are sent to the college in the form of a paper check made payable to the parent borrower. Checks will be disbursed according to procedures established by the Columbus State Business Office.

Federal Work-Study

Students who work a federal work-study job are paid twice a month (the 15th and the last day of the month). The student may request the Payroll Department to deposit these funds directly to their bank account.

Late Financial Aid Awards

If a student’s financial aid is delayed they must plan to pay their fees in order to be reimbursed for whatever financial aid they are eligible to receive. Failure to make the appropriate payment prior to the fee payment deadline for the quarter will result in the student being dropped from their classes.

Please Note: Financial aid does not automatically pay fees for courses added after the fee payment deadline. You may contact the Financial Aid Office for fee payment options. Additionally, financial aid will not be available to pay for courses added after the 100% refund period.
