In order to receive textbook services the student must:
- Complete the Initial Interview, provide documentation of disability and
be approved for this specific service.
- Register for classes.
- Review books for each class and decide which ones will be needed and
requested.
- Contact Disability Services to request specific titles. We suggest that
students request textbooks the same day courses are scheduled.
RESOURCE CENTER DESK: (614) 287-5089 (V/TTY)
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR: (614) 287-2571 (V/TTY)
Textbooks will be ordered from Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic (RFB&D) or
will be scanned, read, and/or duplicated by our staff. It is important that each
book borrowed is returned to Disability Services at the end of the quarter. We
may use it the next quarter for another student.
For RFB&D orders it is very important if you have an Individual ID # with RFB&D
you notify us of the number. Our department will order the textbook using one of
the following methods:
- If the student has an Individual ID # the CD’s will be ordered with your ID#,
and the CD’s will be mailed directly to the student.
- If a student does not have an Individual ID #. Disability Services will order
all textbooks using CSCC’s RFB&D Institutional Membership
Please Note** All textbooks from RFB&D are on CD’s and must be played on one of
RFB&D’s CD players. You may view products available for purchase at
www.rfbd.org.
Materials provided by Disability Services are on a word document and may be
played using a screen reader.
In order to provide the appropriate materials for each student, it is vital the
student communicate with Disability Services. If the student does not provide
the following information regarding Alternative Media Textbook Services he/she
may not receive the request in a timely manner, therefore, the student must:
- Make the specific textbook request (at least 30 days in advance if possible).
FOR EVERY QUARTER CLASSES ARE SCHEDULED.
- Provide the Title, Author, Edition, Copyright Date for each textbook
requested.
- Provide a copy of each course syllabus to Disability Services within the
first week of the quarter.
***** IMPORTANT FACTS THE STUDENT NEEDS TO KNOW****
ADVANCE NOTICE IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO PROVIDE EFFICIENT SERVICES.
- The student must notify Disability Services of any/all changes including
cancellation of a class or withdrawal from a course; this will allow Disability
Services to handle scheduling and assignment accordingly.
- All materials provided by Disability Services must be returned at the end of
the quarter to Franklin Hall Room 228. Our Institutional membership requires
that all books be returned at the end of each quarter. Disability Services may
suspend services to students who do not return materials and/or who request this
service but do not utilize the materials provided.
- If Disability Services needs to scan/duplicate a textbook, the book is usually
not prepared/distributed at one time.
- A course syllabus is essential for our staff to know what chapters/pages are
required and by what date. We will do our best to have these materials ready by
the date stated on the syllabus.
- It is the student's responsibility to check with Disability Services
periodically to see if materials have been prepared and are ready for
distribution.
