Note Taker Notebooks Note Taker Notebooks are available for students who are registered and approved for services. The student may borrow a Note Taker Notebook each quarter. It enables the student to focus on the information the instructor is giving verbally that might otherwise be missed as the student writes notes or copies from the chalkboard or overhead. The student or the instructor usually asks for a volunteer in the class to take notes on NCR paper (currently provided with the notebook). With this method, the note taker and the student (who is registered with DDS) each obtains a copy of the notes from the class lecture. Each book is numbered and assigned to the person who borrows it. Each Note Taker Notebook must be RETURNED to Disability Services during Final Exam Week. For more information, ask any staff member in the Resource Center. Resource Center (614) 287-5089 (V/TTY). Using the Note Taker Notebook:
1. Inform the instructor that you are registered with DDS. Also let him/her know that you have a disability which does not allow you to focus on the information presented verbally while taking notes at the same time.
2. Ask for a volunteer in the class to take the notes using the Note Taker Notebook. The instructor may assist you if you are uncomfortable asking yourself.
3. Explain to the volunteer how to use the Note Taker Notebook. Place two pages of paper on the top of the blue plastic page and write. When class is over the volunteer note taker keeps one copy of the notes and returns the Note Taker Notebook with the other copy of notes to the student. top
1. Each Quarter, request Interpreting Services in advance. We suggest
thirty (30) days before the quarter begins. Please meet with Tiffany
Druckenmiller to schedule classes and/or to make schedule adjustments.
Interpreters will be scheduled for the classes requested.
2. Be on time for your classes. The interpreter will wait fifteen (15) minutes per class hour if you are late. If a student is not in the classroom, the interpreter will return to the Department of Disability Services for other assignments. If you know you will be late or if you will not be attending class, please contact us. 3. If a student misses 3 (three) consecutive classes without informing Disability Services, the interpreter may receive another assignment. We may suspend services when a student does not communicate with Disability Services.
4. Each student is responsible to report all changes and/or course cancellations to Disability Services. Our office will need to make schedule adjustments for the interpreting staff. The only way our office is informed is directly from each student.
5. Occasionally, an interpreter may be absent. Our office will make every attempt to schedule substitute interpreters for all absences. If we are unable to cover a class, we will attempt to contact the student and/or the instructor in the class. Our staff is willing to assist in any explanation needed with the instructor(s).
6. Arrangements for field trips must be made a MINIMUM of one week in
advance. The interpreter will not make the arrangements for the field
trip. Student must contact Tiffany Druckenmiller to schedule
interpreting services.

1. During the first week of the quarter, discuss testing arrangements
with each of your instructors. You need to know how the instructor wants
the test to be delivered to the Department of Disability Services, how
it is to be returned to him/her and the location of the instructor's
mailbox or office.
2. Adaptive Testing is scheduled IN ADVANCE by the student at the Resource
Center Desk or by calling (614) 287-5089 (V/TTY). A staff member will
take the date and time of the test, your name, the course name and
number, the instructor's name and office location, how the test is to be
delivered to Disability Services and exactly what services you are
requesting during the test. All exams should be scheduled for the same
time/date that the class will take the exam unless there is approval by
the instructor due to time conflict or some other circumstance.
EXAMS MUST BE SCHEDULED AT LEAST TWO (2) DAYS IN ADVANCE OF THE TEST!
FOR MIDTERMS AND FINALS, YOU SHOULD PLAN TO INFORM US AT LEAST ONE WEEK
BEFORE THE TEST! We will do our best to accommodate pop quizzes as they
occur. Regular exams, midterms and finals are generally on each syllabus
received within the first week of the quarter.
3. Please arrive at the Resource Center Desk ON THE DAY and THE TIME you
are scheduled to take the test. A test log will be completed by a staff
member with the following information: Name, course name and number,
instructor's name and office location, date and time of the test. We
will also indicate how the test was delivered, check open or closed book
test and indicate specific services provided. We will follow the
directions sent to our department by the instructor.

Test Time Dates May Be Changed Only with Written/Verbal Consent By the
Instructor We will monitor the test during the time you are taking it
and will return the test to the instructor with a copy of the test log.
Students approved for taped exams, Braille and/or large print materials
need to allow NO LESS THAN TWO (2) DAYS for DDS to change to alternate
media. By following the above procedures, our staff should be able to
provide efficient services to all students who have been approved for
ADAPTIVE TESTING.

Taped Textbook Guidelines In order to receive taped textbook services,
the student must:
1. Complete the Initial Interview, provide documentation of disability
and be approved for this specific service.
2. Register for classes.
3. Review books for each class and decide which ones will be needed and
requested.
4. Contact the Department of Disability Services (DDS) to request
specific titles. We suggest that students request taped textbooks at
least thirty (30) days prior to the start of each quarter.

Textbooks will be ordered from Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic or
will be read and/or duplicated by our staff. It is important that each
book borrowed is returned to DDS at the end of the quarter. We may use
it the next quarter for another student.
For RFB&D orders, our department will order the taped textbooks using
one of two methods:
1. If the student has an Individual ID#, we will order with that number
.... which is why it is important to inform our department if there is
an Individual ID#. In this instance, tapes are mailed to the student
directly and may be returned to RFB&D by the student at the end of the
quarter.
2. We will order all other taped textbooks with the CSCC Institutional
Membership RFB&D. All taped textbooks from RFB&D are on 4 track cassette
tapes and must be played on a 4 track tape player. The student may
complete an application for Talking Books through the state library or
may purchase a 4 track player.
Our staff can provide information to obtain a 4‑track cassette player.
Tapes generated by CSCC are on 2 track tapes and may be played on any
standard tape player. In order to provide the appropriate taped
materials for each student, it is vital that the student communicate
with the DDS office. The student must:
1. Make the specific textbook request (30 days in advance, if possible)
EVERY QUARTER.
2. Provide the booklist of necessary textbooks (Tide, Author, Edition,
Copyright Date)
3. Provide a copy of each course syllabus to DDS within the first week
of the quarter. Without this information, our staff will not be assigned
to work on the specific textbook This may result in a student not
receiving the tapes at the time needed.
