What is OTAP?
|
- OTAP is an intense 8-week job training program designed to prepare students for employment
in the Trades or acceptance in Apprenticeship programs where they can
"earn while they learn".
- This program has been in existence since 1987 and has very high placement
and retention rates among graduates.
- OTAP provides career guidance, job placement assistance, resume enhancement,
and continuing professional education.
|
Who can attend OTAP?
|
- Men and women 18 years or older who are interested in a career in the Trades
- High school diploma is preferred
- Must be able to obtain a valid drivers' license within 3 months
Second chances are our specialty. We provide adults the skills they need to get their careers - and
their lives - back on track. Many of our students came in with histories of substance abuse and/or
imprisonment and are now working in rewarding careers. OTAP can help you enter an apprenticeship for
a skilled trade, such as carpentry or plumbing. Or it can simply give you the work skills you need to
land your next job.
Participants will be given bus passes if needed. This program is free to those who meet the income
qualification guidelines. Students will earn tools each week for perfect attendance. Upon successful graduation,
they will receive a tool box and electric drill. Work-boots valued at over $100 will be given to those who have
perfect attendance for the entire course.
After the 8-week course, students can earn 8 credit hours through the Applied
Technologies Department.
