AAS
Degree Program (Career and Technical Programs):
The Associate of
Applied Science (AAS) degree is awarded for the completion of career and
technical degree programs that are designed to prepare students for immediate
employment upon graduation. The AAS
degree programs consist of approximately 100 to 110 credit hours and may be
completed in two years for students who are enrolled full-time.
A number of 2+2 transfer agreements have been developed between Columbus
State and specific colleges and universities to apply the credits earned in
specific AAS programs to specific bachelor’s degree programs.
AA
or AS Degree Program (Transfer Programs):
The Associate of Arts
(AA) and Associate of Science (AS) degrees are awarded for the completion of
program requirements that are designed to prepare students for the transfer and
application of all credits earned at Columbus State to the bachelor degree
requirements of most colleges and universities. The degree programs consist of
approximately 100 to 110 credit hours, and they may be completed in two years
for students who are enrolled full-time.
Pre-Professional and
Pre-Major Guides are available to provide Arts and Sciences Transfer students
with a suggested list of courses based on their intended baccalaureate major.
When A&S Transfer students determine their transfer institution, they
are advised to contact the appropriate advisor at that institution for further
information about their course requirements.
The Capstone
Experience, which is described below, provides A&S Transfer students with
the opportunity to research and present a project that is related to their
baccalaureate major.
| ATS
Degree Program: |
The Associate of Technical Studies (ATS)
degree is similar to the AAS degree in overall description.
This program is intended to provide students, for whom Columbus State’s
existing majors do not meet their specific career objective, with the means to
propose an individually designed degree program that combines course work from
two to four majors. The ATS degree program does not waive prerequisite courses or
the standard requirements for completing a degree program at Columbus State.
The ATS degree is not intended to provide the means to substitute courses
in an existing AAS degree program.
Certificate
Program:
Short-term certificate programs are offered in many of the Career and
Technical Programs. The programs vary in length.
They enable the student to prepare for entry-level employment in a new
career field, or to enhance their knowledge and skills in a current professional
or technical career field.
Capstone
Experience:
The Capstone Experience is a required course for Arts and Sciences
students, who are preparing to graduate from the AA or AS degree program within
two quarters. The Capstone Experience provides students with an
introduction to the baccalaureate major in their chosen field of study.
The course requirements vary by academic discipline, and they usually
include the completion and presentation of a research project that relates to
the student’s academic interests.
